Pastor Duane’s Annual Report

January 17, 2010

Our vision is as follows:  “Walking together as we experience the life-changing journey of knowing and living for Jesus.”

This is our vision.  Do you see it?

In Robert Browning’s poem “Paracelsus,” a man travels toward a city, but it is surrounded by swirling mists.  He thinks that he must have taken the wrong road and lost his way.  But then the mist opens for an instant and he glimpses the spires of the city in the distance.  Browning pens the triumphant lines:  So long the city I desire to reach lay hid when suddenly its spires afar flooded through the circling clouds, you may conceive my transport, soon the vapors closed again, but I had seen the city!

I’m not Robert Browning, but both metaphorically and biblically, I believe I have seen the city.  Together with the leadership of Hope Covenant Church, we have seen the vision of where God wants to take our church.  That vision is to be a grace-filled, life-changing, hope-spreading church that makes a difference for the Kingdom in the East Valley.  During 2010, I want you to catch a glimpse of the city, to claim our vision as your own.  My commitment to you is to faithfully communicate and live this vision in the coming year, and to invite you to join me in this exciting adventure.

Together, let’s keep that picture of what God is calling Hope Covenant Church to be:  alive and infectious to the Glory of God.

This annual meeting marks 9 ½ years of my ministry as your pastor.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart for loving me, accepting me, and standing beside me in this ministry of the Gospel of Grace.
