THE ONE YEAR BIBLE
I’ve just finished my readings for day 7 in The One Year Bible. One week down, 51 weeks to go….and already it’s been wonderful. I love this book; I can’t get enough of it. I hope you’re enjoying this journey through the Bible in 2010 as much as I am. Stick with it, the rewards will be eternal.
The Bible is a treasure waiting to be discovered. Yet, many people are intimidated by its (pick one) size, content or theology. In 1996 a survey by the Barna Group, found that the average American owns, respects, and swears allegiance to the Bible, but doesn’t read it. Eighty percent of the respondents said they consider the Bible to be the most influential book in human history. More than 90 percent of households surveyed owned a Bible and 75 percent owned more than one. Yet nearly half said they never or only rarely read it. Why? Well, one so-called expert explained this disparity by saying that the Bible is difficult to study. I disagree.
In fact, I whole heartedly believe that the Bible is God’s personal message (and invitation) to each and every one of us. God had preserved and protected His word through the ages so that it is available and understandable to each and every one who opens its pages. Whether in written form, audio form or over the internet, the Eternal Word of God is available to all of us.
So dig in, don’t be afraid and enjoy the journey. Listen to what the angel of God said to John in Revelation:
“These are dependable and accurate words, every one. The God and Master of the spirits of the prophets sent His Angel to show his servants what must take place, and soon. And tell them, ‘Yes, I’m on my way!’ Blessed be the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.” — Revelation 22:6-7 (The Message)
