What I learned on an Alaskan cruise

Week of August 15, 2010

Sheri and I had the privilege of celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary (August 1) on board The Amsterdam (Holland America Cruise Lines) cruising to Alaska.  Here are some things we learned:

  • It’s cold in Alaska (who knew?) Most days the highs didn’t hit 60 degrees.
  • We both love the ocean (we grew up in San Diego, so no surprise).
  • We love each other more after 40 years together.
  • God’s creation is vast and amazing and spectacular!
  • The halibut population 20 miles off the coast of Homer (the halibut capital of the world is minus 6 after your pastor fished there).
  • We found out Steve and Lonnie’s new home in Kodiak is beautiful.
  • The worship service on board The Amsterdam was great, but it was no HCC!
  • We encountered many of God’s people from all over the world on the ship.
  • Sheri looks awesome all dressed up!
  • Hubbard glacier is 9 miles wide, 19 miles deep and its face stands 500” above the ocean.
  • One day in early August, the temperature in Alaska was 55 degrees, exactly ½ of the temperature in Chandler, AZ!
  • We learned once again how much we love our church family, and how good it is to be home.

If any of you are interested in pictures, Sheri has just under 1 billion pictures of our trip (just kidding!)

Love,
