2009-Navajo-Christmas - Navajo Nation 2009 highlights

Just wanted to update you all on the news, that a team of 7 went up to the Navajo Nation on Saturday-Sunday.  The church in Dilkon gathered kids on Sunday from the community to attend church, and afterward Jim & Debbie Selland handed out the shoeboxes to all the kids!  About 40 Christmas shoeboxes with toys, clothes and hygiene items were saved from those collected in November to go to the children on the Navajo Nation.  They only had a very few left as of Sunday, and the two Navajo pastors there are going to give them out to other needy kids in the coming days.

This concludes a great year of Navajo ministry, with most of the thanks going to Jim & Debbie.  This year we had 50 people from Hope go on one of our 5 trips up there, the most ever having gone in a single year.  As we close out our 5th year of ministry up there, we have now had over 100 different people from Hope go up to serve.  Plus the other churches that have joined up with us on a few of our trips brings that total number of people to 125.

Praise the Lord for his goodness and faithfulness.  Please continue to pray for this ministry.  I want to see this ministry grow in 2010 into Farmington, where the Sellands have a career missionary contact.  I have begun building a relationship with the heads of Navajo Ministries which is also based in Farmington, the ministry which I have found is by far the most successful at impacting the Navajo Nation for Christ.  There have been some complications getting our first trip set up to go there, primarily because of the distance/time it will take for a team from Hope to go there.  There are opportunities for people from Hope with lots of varied gifts to be able to be used to impact Navajo adults and children there, including homes for children, a school, an FM contemporary Christian station, a counseling center, prayer center, and lots of outreach into the communities nearby.  You can see more about this ministry at www.navajoministries.org.
