GOD CALLS US TO FIGHT FOR INJUSTICE

  • “Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” (Psalm 82:3-4)
  • “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?" (Micah 6:8, ESV)
  • “The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor.  He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the LORD’s favor has come.” (Luke 4:18-19, NLT)

UNDERSTANDING HUMAN TRAFFICKING

  • Human trafficking is the recruitment and exploitation of people for profit, through force, fraud or coercion.  Victims are people forced into labor of all kinds, including sweathouses, fields, and even in homes as servants, or for sexual exploitation.
  • t’s the fastest growing criminal industry and is the third-largest source of income for organized crime in the world.  (Polaris Project)
  • There are over 27 million men, women and children around held today who are being trafficked, which means there are more slaves today than when it was legal in the world.  (United Nations, 2005)
  • Slavery today is cheap.  Average price for a slave in 1850 (in today’s dollars): $40,000.  Average price of a slave in 2010:  $90.  (humantrafficking.change.org)
  • The average age of a child trafficking victim in the United States and in the Phoenix area is 13 years old.  (U.S. Department of State, Phoenix Police Department)

TOGETHER, WE ARE BLESSED TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • As the people of God we are truly blessed … but not blessed for ourselves.  We are blessed to make a difference.
  • 7 key ways you can start making a difference in the fight against human trafficking:  visit www.hopeispossible.org/HT
  • Working together, we can make a far greater impact than on our own!  “Two people  are better than one, because they get more done by working together.  If one falls down, the other can help him up … an enemy might defeat one person, but … a rope that is woven of three strings is hard to break.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9,10,12, NCV)
