LIFE’S HEALING CHOICES
“The Reality Choice”
Pastor Duane Cross | 10.04.09
“I don’t understand what I do. What I want to do I don’t do, but what I hate to do, I end up doing! I know that nothing good lives in my sinful nature. I have the desire to do what it good, but I cannot carry it out.” (Romans 7:15 &18)
WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF THESE PROBLEMS?
IT’S PLAYING GOD
“In the pride of your heart you say, ‘I am a god’... But you are just a man and not a god, though you think you are as wise as a god.” (Ezekiel 28:2)
FIRST HEALING CHOICE: REALITY
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven”
(Matthew 5:3)
1. TO BE POOR IN SPIRIT I MUST HUMBLY ADMIT I NEED HELP
• The first thing to admit: I am broken
• I need to admit my secrets make me sick
“When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the LORD’ — and you forgave the guilt of my sin. “ (Psalm 32:3-5)
“You will never succeed in life if you try to hide your sins. Confess them and give them up; then God will show mercy to you.” (Proverbs 28:13 TEV)
• My pride and fear keep me stuck
“My people have committed two sins. They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and they have dug their own broken wells, their own broken cisterns that can’t hold water.” (Jeremiah 2:13)
2. I MUST HUMBLY ASK GOD FOR HELP
“We despaired of even life itself. We saw how powerless we were to help ourselves; but that was good, for then we put everything into the hands of God, who alone could save us, for he can even raise the dead (2 Corinthians 1:9)
